The University of Manchester’s Dalton Nuclear Institute has built a broad nuclear research capability that is addressing the major issues associated with nuclear energy, covering: plant life extension, new nuclear build and reactors of the future, decommissioning and radioactive waste and spent nuclear fuel management.  Over the past few years the portfolio of nuclear research and educational activity has ramped up significantly with well over £120m invested by the University, HM Government, research councils and industry since the Institute’s formation, and over 100 academic staff currently involved.
